It’s been a really long time since the last Early Birds > Late Worms breakfast. Not to worry, I haven’t given up on these. I’d like to thank JB (& SH) for the nudge and inspiration for the theme for this breakfast: The Yearning Octopus. Warning: it is a very long read & I’m still digesting. The concept however, is quite easy to grasp. Picture yourself, as an octopus. And now imagine that each limb has it’s own priorities and motivations (Personal, Practical, Moral, Lifestyle, Social, etc). The yearning octopus is to understand each of the limbs and attempt to design a career/lifestyle that properly optimizes the use of each limb. If that octopus goes to the gym, it doesn’t skip leg day. However, at any given moment, each limb thinks of itself as the most important, and therefore always prioritizes itself.
The focus of the breakfast will be to discuss our own Yearning Octopussies. Who is your Octopus? What is it based on? What compromises have you made to ensure your career is fulfilling all of your requirements? What are your true motivations? This will be a deep dive.
